Melt In Your Mouth – Raw Ice Cream

It's no secret that I'm passionate about the sweet things in life... I especially love raw ice cream - I've experimented with countless flavours over the years, and eaten more then my fair share of the frosty, creamy stuff!

Blue Mountain Cashew Creamery makes the most amazing raw vegan ice cream around. I recently had the joy of indulging in this fabulous treat and decided to do a review on it. I feel this needs to be shared! I love to make my own desserts but I also love to enjoy raw food made by others - it's a real treat for me to eat out at raw restaurants, or buy choccies/treats when I'm in a place that sells them (think, no health food store or Whole Foods in my town/area). I'm still in the US and was easily able to have the ice cream shipped to me!

These guys aren't joking around, this stuff is incredibly rich, creamy, and silky smooth - none of your "cooked" friends would know this is raw! The ice cream is: Organic, raw, dairy free, refined sugar free, and all natural. They've got 6 flavors (5 of which I tried - the Goji looks particularly impressive and I definitely want to try that one too when I can get my hands on it), and are soon launching Strawberry.

Philip and I were so excited when the box arrived. I was jumping up and down like a child on Christmas! Everything was still perfectly frozen, as they ship in a styrofoam cooler with dry ice in the bottom.

Check out the ice cream (and sundae!) on-screen!

Here are my thoughts on each flavor...

Mint Chocolate Chip - This is the first one I tried, and I give it a thumbs up. Nice green color from spirulina and a refreshing minty flavor - I personally prefer fresh mint leaves and essential oil as the perfect balance of mint in desserts, but this was still good. Great crunch from the nibs in there too, I love that!

Vanilla - Second one I tried - this is reeeally delish and silky! A "real" vanilla bean flavor, which is essential for a good vanilla ice cream.

Chocolate - Probably the best chocolate ice cream I've ever had - ultra rich, but not overly cacao-y which I really liked.

Mango- I highly recommend this one. The mango flavor POPS, and they've got some pineapple in there too which I think contributes a BA'AM! Normally I don't care for fruity ice creams - I'd rather go for vanilla, choccie, or mint chip, BUT I would make an exception for this one!

Cappuccino- As you'll see in the video, this is never a flavor of choice for me, but Philip sure loves it, and I must say, I did enjoy the few bites I had. I'm sure any coffee/cappuccino lover would be all over this!

I can't choose just one, so my two favourite flavours are the Vanilla and Mango (I'm a bit surprised I didn't go for the choccie.) I hope you'll give Blue Mountain ice cream (and other treats) a try, I think you'll be a happy camper if you do!

What is your favourite ice cream flavor?

Reminder that the Moonie Pie Challenge is in full swing! I've seen a few entries and I've been in contact with a few folks who have been testing out various moonie ideas. I am having so much fun with this! Keep em coming!

Those look so good! I just got back from the health food store; I wonder if they carry those.
My favorite ice-cream is cookie dough. I haven't experimented with vegan ice cream much, but I like to make banana soft serve with chunks of raw "dough" made with cashews and dates.
McKella
http://kellapillar.blogspot.com/

Lucky duck. I've been wanting to try that ice cream, and almost contacted them about a review. Unfortunately, I got the impression that they didn't ship to my area. I guess I'll just have to imagine what it tastes like.

So, how long are you staying in the U.S.? Any plans to head my direction again? We really need to meet in person one of these days :-)

Oh, I almost forgot, my favorite ice cream is green tea, although I'm not supposed to have it while breastfeeding. I guess I'll just have to settle for a Rooibos chai version.
