Raw Vegan Chocolate Protein Tarts & GIVEAWAY
Who's interested in a creamy raw vegan no-bake gluten free chocolate protein tart? That's a mouthful, eh? I'm so excited to share today's recipe with you along another awesome giveaway that is open to Canada and the USA!
These tarts are deceiving - they look rich and decadent, like something you'd only eat for dessert BUT you could eat these for breakfast or enjoy half of a tart for a snack. They're low in sugar and are filled with plant protein.
Earlier this year I was in Kelowna, BC to teach a raw food class and visit one of my best friends. When she took me to her favourite health food store, I discovered a new line of vegan energy bars from a company called PowerPlant (which is located in Kelowna). I bought the Chocolate Veggie Bar and LOVED it! I was impressed with everything from the ingredients to the flavour and the texture. It was semi-soft and chewy, not too sweet, chocolatey, and satisfying. I'm picky when it comes to bars. I don't want anything that's full of soy, whey, sugar, or unhealthy oil (there are way too many of those on the market). I'm typically not a fan of brown rice protein based bars either as I don't like the texture and don't digest them very well. I made sure to pick up some more bars before leaving the city as I wasn't sure where else I could find them... Fast forward a few months. I was excited to see the PowerPlant bars and protein powder in my local health food store! I had to contact the company about doing a giveaway for you because I really like to spread the word about a good product when I see it.
It just so happened that Martin, the owner, was here in Victoria for business recently so I had the chance to meet up with him and learn more about what he's doing. His mission is to create the best plant based bars and protein powers on the market. With a chef background I can see why the bars are so delicious and he has a team of dieticians and a holistic nutritionist to scrutinize every ingredient that makes its way into the products. He also told me about an experiment he did on himself where he ONLY ate the PowerPlant products for 10 days straight. He enjoyed 3 bars and the protein powder mixed with unsweetened almond milk daily and felt amazing!
PowerPlant Whole Foods has 6 different energy bars (with anywhere from 8-14 grams of protein each) and 2 protein powders, all made with whole food ingredients and pumpkin seed protein (which is a complete protein and easier to digest than other protein powders) blended with three sprouted seeds. All PowerPlants Products are *Raw *Organic *Gluten Free *Vegan *Peanut Free *Paleo Friendly *Grain Free. You can read more details about the products HERE.
Four of the bars are covered in semi-sweet chocolate marking them a little more decadent: chocolate coconut bar, chocolate veggie bar, coconut almond veggie bar, and chocolate fruit bar (even still they're not too sweet). The other two bars are: coconut bare bar and almond veggie bare bar.
I absolutely love that the bars contain ingredients like veggies (carrots, spinach, broccoli, kale, and beets), along with pumpkin seed protein powder, sprouted flax, sprouted quinoa, coconut, chia, tapioca syrup, cacao powder, almond butter, and pumpkin seed oil.
You can find the bars in stores across Canada (they ship to the US too) BUT you can save 30% by ordering through their website with my code: SWEET (you receive FREE shipping on orders over $70). This makes it cheaper than buying them in the store (I get no kick back, they just simply wanted to offer my readers a deal).
Check out these protein powders. I love how natural and simple they are. They do NOT contain any sugar!!!! It's so hard to find protein powders that don't have any sweetener added to them.
Garden Veggies, Sprouted Seeds, and Pumpkin Seed Protein consists of pumpkin protein powder, carrot powder, sprouted flax, chia, sprouted red quinoa flour, spinach, broccoli, kale, and beets.
Apple, Berries, Sprouted Seeds, and Pumpkin Seed Protein consists of pumpkin protein, apple, sprouted flax, sprouted chia, sprouted red quinoa flour, blackberry, blueberry, and strawberry.
Again, You can find the bars/protein powder in stores across Canada (they ship to the US too) BUT you can save 30% by ordering through their website with my code: SWEET (you receive FREE shipping on orders over $70).
I used both the bars and the protein powder to create these rich, yet healthy chocolate tarts! I used the "bare" bars (the ones without any chocolate covering) to create the crust, and used the berry protein powder to create the creamy filling.
Raw Vegan Chocolate Protein Tarts
4 PowerPlant "bare" bars*
1/2 tablespoon water
Break or chop the bars into pieces and add to a food processor along with the water. Grind to fine, moist crumbs. Press into the bottom/sides of 3, 4" tart pans with removable bottoms. Set aside.
*I used both the coconut and the almond veggie bar. Make sure to order off their website and receive 30% off and free shipping over $70 using my code: SWEET.
1 cup raw cashew pieces
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup PowerPlant protein powder*
2 tablespoons coconut nectar
2 tablespoons cacao powder
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
3 tablespoons melted coconut oil
Blend the cashews and water until smooth in a high speed blender. Add the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth. Taste. Add 1-2 drops of stevia if desired. Pour into the crusts (you'll have a bit left over to eat). Place into the freezer for at least 4 hours. Push the tarts out of the pans (wiggle a butter knife between the ring and the plate in the bottom).
*Or protein powder of your choice, however since this one is unsweetened so you may want to omit the sweetener entirely if your protein is sweetened.
I garnished with my raw caramel sauce tossed with some pumpkin seeds. See my caramel recipe HERE.
PowerPlant is giving away 2 sampler packages with each of their bars and both of the protein powders! You have 2 chances to win. Enter here in this post and also on my Instagram. This contest is open to residents of Canada and the USA.
