Adventures in Australia

I'm so terribly behind in sharing my travel adventures. It's hard to believe that I've been here for almost 7 weeks already. Where does the time go?! Australia is one of my favorite countries in the world. Being drawn to it since I was a child, I traveled here three years ago and always knew I'd return but had no idea it would be this soon for one hell of a journey. I particularly love the beautiful coastal town of Byron Bay where I've spent most of my time...

Why do I love Byron? The answer is simple.
The town is on a huge white sandy beach, the sun shines most of the time, it's hot even when it's rainy, there's a constant happy hustle and bustle with all the tourists and locals, the farmers markets are incredible, there are heaps of restaurants and shops to choose from, the the people are friendly... and there's just an indescribable energy that makes most people want to stay here longer.

Most of my days include a trip to the beach where I lie in the sun, take a few dips into the ocean to cool off and play in the big waves (great surfing spot too), write in my journal, and enjoy a little picnic. Boy, life is tough here, lol.

For the first two weeks I stayed with my dear friend, and soul sister, Anya who organised my Byron Bay raw dessert class. We had heaps of fun playing in the kitchen, prepping for my class, lounging on the beach, taking walks, and talking/laughing for hours on end. The class was fun and the dessert tasting party at the end was even better! (Unfortunately I have no pictures of the event).

We made my Chocolate Mousse one day, and topped it with a coconut cream, bananas, and cacao nibs.

For the hell of it I did a four day stint at a backpackers in town. While it was a fun experience, it's my last choice as far as accommodation is concerned. I started out in a room with two bunk beds and fortunately was placed with three fabulous girls from Sydney who were on a "girls trip". I spent two fun nights with them going out for dinner and partying at the clubs. On the third day, two cool guys from Holland arrived and we decided to take an early morning hike up to Byron's famous lighthouse (seen on all the postcards). We started out at 5:30am to make it just in time for the 6:30am sunrise which is absolutely spectacular and a "must do" if you ever travel here. The pictures simply cannot do it justice, but you get the idea. The fourth day was shitty, as I had to move into a room with eight other people! Too messy and noisy for me.

So as you can see, Byron Bay is stunning... I hope you'll visit it one day too!

Hurrah for Australia! I've never actually been to Byron so it's lovely that you're sharing with all of us. Any chance you'll make a last minute dash to Canberra to show us raw-bereft folk how it's done? :D
