Hemp Protein Bar Recipe, Calgary Workshop, a New GIVEAWAY, and More!
I'm doing a happy dance today! In addition to sharing recipes (today its a raw vegan hemp protein bar recipe), it thrills me when I can share products that I love, with you - and give someone the chance to win. Today its a reeeeally fabulous one. Speaking of win, Isabelle Martin is the winner of the Singing Bowl Granola - congrats to you, your prize is on its way! And cool little note about that: When I emailed Isabelle to tell her of her win, I asked how she found out about the giveaway - blog? facebook? instagram? etc. She told me that she's been reading my blog since my early days, back when it was called "Adventures of Raw Goddess Heathy"! Isn't that a hoot?! I did a total revamp of the blog several years later and changed my name to Sweetly Raw, and then did another overhaul again 2 years ago. Anyway, I love hearing stories like that 🙂
If you're in the Calgary area, I have a fabulous workshop coming up next month with holistic Nutritionist Amber Romaniuk. We'll be talking about nutrition, positive body image, balance in life and with your diet (and why you don't need to be raw or vegan to be healthy), and will also be doing some raw food recipe demos and samples. You can see more info and register HERE. We hope to see you there for this fun afternoon!
Today's post is all about HEMP...
GIVEAWAY
My friends at Planet Hemp are giving one of my lucky readers this huge bundle (enter below).
Here's what the winner will receive:
A bag of their Maple Cinnamon Hemp Protein Powder. This is a blend of 4 ingredients: pure hemp protein powder, alfalfa powder, maple powder, and cinnamon!
A bag of their Cacao Heaven hemp squares. These are really good. They're kind of like a chewy raw brownie - not too sweet. It makes a great "pick me up"!
A bag of their Forbidden Fruit squares. These are my favourite (hubby's favourite too). They're light and crunchy, just sweet enough - but not too sweet. See the ingredients here.
A bottle of hemp oil AND a bag of hemp seeds!
To ENTER the giveaway:
- Leave a comment below telling me what your favourite way to eat hemp is? (I love to sprinkle hemp seeds on my salads and smoothies, plus use them in desserts.)
- For a BONUS entry: "Like" Sweetly Raw Desserts on Facebook (then write "Liked SRD" in the comment section below for it to be counted).
- For another BONUS entry "Like" Planet Hemp on Facebook (then write "Liked Planet Hemp" in the comment section below).

NOTE: this contest is now closed. Congratulations Jordann Catherine, I hope you enjoy the Hemp Planet bundle.
I used Planet Hemp's maple cinnamon protein powder to make these protein bars but you can try any protein powder of your choice.
Raw Vegan Hemp Protein Bars
These are NUT-FREE so they're a great option for those who can't eat nuts. Alternatively, you could use almond butter in place of the tahini.
1 cup hemp seeds
1/2 cup maple cinnamon hemp protein powder (or powder of choice)
1/2 cup shredded coconut
2/3 cup pitted packed dates, chopped
1/2 cup melted coconut butter
4 tablespoons tahini
3 tablespoons warm water
Grind the hemp seeds, protein powder, coconut, and dates in a food processor. Add the coconut butter, tahini, and water. Process until combined. Press the mixture into the bottom of a parchment paper lined 8x8" or 9x9" pan. Place in the freezer for at least 2 hours, or until firm. Slice into bars.
The coconut drizzle is optional but a nice little addition.
Coconut Drizzle
2 tablespoons melted coconut butter
1 tablespoon melted coconut oil
3-4 tablespoons water
Whisk all ingredients together starting with 2 tablespoons of water and adding enough while whisking to create a smooth consistency. Drizzle over the sliced bars. Place into the freezer for a few minutes for it to harden.
For the past 5 days I've been in Kelowna, BC visiting one of my very best friends, Nicole. If you're a long time reader you've seen her on the blog before! I also taught a class at Gratitude Cafe while I was there. We both really needed a "girls weekend" and I couldn't have asked for a better time. We had a blast! We visited 7 wineries in 2 days - Kelowna is in the Okanagan, the wine belt of Canada. It probably take a month to visit all the wineries the area has to offer!
In addition to the wineries, we went out for lunch several times, took a spin class that Nicole teaches, went out for dinner, went shopping, made peanut butter power balls, went for a hike to the lake one, cooked (and I showed her how to make eggplant lasagna, raw cheddar dip, and cashew alfredo sauce with spaghetti squash), walked around downtown, made raw chocolate almond butter balls and more!
You know those friends who you can be yourself around?! Nicole is one of those friends. We can be our silly selves with each other.
Here are the raw almond butter balls I made at Nicole's. Basically I made my peanut butter ball recipe using raw almond butter and they turned out SO great!
I also taught a raw food class at Gratitude Cafe in Kelowna which was so much fun! We made fully loaded fajitas and ice cream sundaes! I shared all of these on my instastories(along with the rest of my trip) be sure to connect with me @sweetlyraw .
Nicole and I went back to Gratitude Cafe for lunch today. I had the cashew curry kelp noodle chow mein and Nicole had the avocado pesto zucchini cannelloni. We loved it!
And be sure to check out my Calgary workshop and join us for a fun and informative day!
Have a great week :)))

Love tolling my energy bites in hemp!
Hi Heather, I LOVE me some hempseeds in desserts (like ''Hempnut Cookbook's Hip2Hemp Snack Bars'' with rolled oats, shelled hemp seeds, sunflower seeds, pecans, cinnamon, rice syrup, hemp seed oil & vanilla extract) but would like to include them in ''salty'' recipes in a creative way. Like in a vegetarian pâté. Any suggestions?
Those bars sound awesome Isabelle! Hemp seeds are great in pesto!!! You can also sub them into pates - the flavor can be strong so I like to also use another nut/seed as well. :))
Love these home made protein bars, so much good stuff in them. I always look at tge grocery store while waiting to pay for groceries all the protein bars available, but never buy them because there are so many ingredients that I can't even pronounce let alone know what they are. Your protein vars would be a great snack for those if us who work quite physically throughout the day. Live Kelowna and all those fabulous wineries. Fibally here is to good friends who bless our lives! Cheers! Loreto@SugarLoveSpices
Thanks Loreto! I totally agree that 99% of the protein bars at the store are filled with junk! We need better options! Do you live in Kelowna? Have a great weekend :))
