LA Vacation – Juliano’s and a Raw Ice Cream Shop
I've got a few more posts to share from my LA vacation. A group of us went to Juliano's, restaurant, Planet Raw, in Santa Monica one afternoon for lunch. I've been a fan of Juliano for a long time (in fact, I've had his book for 10 years) so it was great to dine at his place and meet him!
Alex, Courtney, Puki, Sarah, and her friend Marielle, and I hit up the resto and then went to the new outdoor mall nearby.
Most of us had the mint chip shake... incredible! I want to drink jugs of this 🙂
I was in a salad mood, so ordered this big one. Yummy! The buckwheat croutons were especially nice, and light.
One of the girls had this soup which was tasty.
Alex had this alfredo kelp noodle dish and it was insaaaanely good! Definitely dehydrated to warm perfection.
Cheezey Kelp Noodle Recipe
Thanks to my friend Jozzie who is the master finder of raw recipes - she found this on Juliano's site as the recipe of the month!
Noodles
2 packages Sea Tangle Kelp Noodles
1⁄2 c nut cheeze (see below)
1⁄8 c olive oil
1 tsp fresh rosemary, minced
1⁄4 tsp Celtic sea salt
1 TBS fresh-squeezed lemon juice
2 tsp Bragg Aminos
3 TBS Nutritional Yeast
1/2 tsp black pepper
Mix everything in mixing bowl and place in the dehydrator for 1 hour
Nut Cheeze
2 c cashews
1 tsp de-stemmed finely minced fresh rosemary
3 TBS fresh-squeezed lemon juice
1 tsp Celtic sea salt
1 1⁄2 c Water
Blend into a thick cream add more water if needed
Getting ready for the big feast.. oooh yes!
Always room for dessert in my life! Alex, Puki, and I shared 3 different ones.
The strawberry cheesecake, fluffy, light and delicious.
This was apparently the ice cream sundae. HAha... quite the joke. There was nothing ice cream-y about it. The chocolate was more like a truffle mixture - very dense, and NOT frozen or even really cold. The vanilla sauce is tasty, but they put it on everything, all topped with granola and berries.
Chocolate mousse tart... looking incredibly messy (sorry, but it's true) - it was delicious though! The vanilla sauce on top is great, but they put it on all the desserts.
The verdict? The food tasted delicious... but I wasn't as too keen on the presentation. It looks like it was thrown on the plate. Every plate was garnished with radish, cabbage and broccoli, lol. So yeah, that part needs a little work, but otherwise, it was great.
If that wasn't enough, Puki told me about a raw ice cream store right near her house. WELL, you know what I said about that! "Can we go?! Can we go?!" 🙂 I was like a kid in a candy store when we arrived at Kind Kreme. I was the only one to indulge. Alex and I went again a few days later with Tonya Kay, and tried their chocolate and vanilla soft serve which was good, but I preferred the ice cream.
My dream come true. 16 or so flavors or raw vegan ice cream! I sampled all over them 🙂
I ordered 4 small sccops: mint chip, coconut, chai, and another one - all covered in their amazing salted caramel sauce.
That night, the girls enjoyed the hot tub at Puki's.
I'm so grateful that Courtney came all the way from Arizona for a visit. We're close friends and it was wonderful to see her again (I hadn't seen her since NYC, months ago). It was also great to meet Puki and Sarah, two bright beautiful souls.
