Raw Vegan Orange Chocolate Brownies

Hello from Toronto! Today I have a decadent treat for you. This raw vegan orange chocolate brownie recipe is deceivingly easy to make and is sure to impress your guests. A pan of them didn't stand much of a chance around our place lol. I had to hide some of them in the freezer.

What I've done here is take my regular raw brownie recipe and top it with an orange cream instead of chocolate frosting. I drizzled it with some chocolate sauce and garnished it with orange segments and finely chopped orange rawmio chocolate bar.

Raw Vegan Orange Chocolate Brownies

1 cup almonds

1 cup walnuts or pecans

1 cup pitted, packed dates

1/3 cup cacao powder

1/8 teaspoon Himalayan salt

1 teaspoon water

Grind the almonds to flour in a food processor. Add the walnuts, dates, cacao, and salt. Process until the dates are completely ground. Add the water and process briefly. The dough should hold together when pressed in your hand. Press into the bottom of an 8x8" pan. Set aside.

Orange Cream

1 1/2 cups cashew pieces

1/2 cup + 1 tablespoon orange juice

3 tablespoons maple syrup or coconut nectar

2-3 teaspoons orange zest

1/3 cup melted coconut oil

1 1/2 tablespoons melted coconut butter

Blend the cashews, orange juice, and maple in a high speed blender until smooth. Add the zest, oil, and butter. Blend again to incorporate. Pour over the brownie base. Set into the freezer for 4-6 hours and then transfer to the fridge for several hours before slicing.

Chocolate Drizzle

2 tablespoons coconut nectar

2 tablespoons cacao powder

2 tablespoons melted coconut oil

1-2 teaspoons hot water

Whisk all ingredients together until smooth, using enough water to make everything emulsify.

Here's the video I filmed with Shaw TV making the brownies!

Hi! I am a new follower from instagram. Your recipes are great and I love anything orange and chocolate. Is there a substitute for coconut butter? And do I need to soak the cashews? Thank you

Hi Mai! Thank you so much. No, you don't need to soak the cashews - UNLESS you don't have a high speed blender in which case it will make them softer and easier for blending. You can do all coconut oil if you can't find coconut butter - but you can make your own coconut butter if you have a vitamix or other high speed blender. I hope you enjoy the brownies!

I have been following you for about 5-6 years now and absolutely love everything that you do! Any time I make one of your recipes, I always direct people to your website who commented or inquired on the deliciousness of what I had prepared. I was a raw vegan for 5 years and made dozens of my own desserts but nothing compares to the proper ratios of ingredient combinations as your creations. And to know that there are no chemicals or preservatives or anything harmful ingredients...just simple, wholesome, foods that enhance life means so much to me. Thanks again!

It looks like there is raisins in the video but not in the recipe. Can you clarify? My base is falling apart without the raisins so i am guessing it's supposed to have them.

Hi Becki, Yes in the video there are raisins BUT I used 2/3 cup dates and 1/3 cup raisins. In the recipe here I've used 1 cup of dates, and actually dates are typically more moist that raisins - so I'm guessing a few things for your brownies: 1. you didn't process them long enough. Processing helps break it all down and bring it together. YOu want to really grind the nuts well before adding the dates - and process well after adding them too. 2. the water is crucial - just a little to really hold it. 3. Your dates are on the dry side. I've made these probably 100 times and even sell them, so I know those tips should help :))
